New Year News December 31 2013

We've been grinding along for the past couple of months at Steady-On, getting bespoke orders finished and starting new ones. Early this year we'll be slowing down the bespoke side temporarily and getting some smaller products for sale on the site, along with some special larger pieces. Not much to show yet, but in lieu of that here's a photo of Crumble on the tablesaw:

The workshop is still in a state of semi-controlled chaos as we try and get it tidy and work on jobs at the same time, but that's coming along nicely with some potential for annexing an adjacent unit which will ease up our storage 'issues'. We've been lucky in avoiding a cold snap so far this winter, but we've got halfway through lagging the roof from the underneath with loft insulation, which has now overtaken stripping paint as my #1 Worst Job in the World.

We had a Christmas party (some grown men loitering around the ping-pong table and drinking booze), which resulted in me being very unwell all over the pavement outside the workshop, and all over our dining room floor at home. Still, you have to make an effort at this time of year. Please note the festive decorations on the aforementioned ping-ping table:

'Making It' Showcase October 29 2013

I'm honoured that we're included in this year's exhibition of local designer-makers, organised partly by Richard, the studio manager at Rodhus where our workshop is based.

From the press release:

’MAKING  IT LOCALLY, SELLING IT GLOBALLY’

MAKING IT is a clever collaboration lead by the inspiration of Richard Ainsworth  owner of the dynamic Rodhus Studios in Brighton www.rodhus.co.uk  Together with long time friend and colleague Ian Elwick  (The Werks, The Dock, Westwerks and Coachwerks)  www.thewerks.org.uk  who brings both creativity  and business support acumen to the table.

This clever pair put their heads together to  came up with this cunning plan and  it has resulted in a project that stands out from the crowd  for 4 very important reasons

1. The high quality of the  selected exhibitors

2. Creative industries working hand in hand with strong business support

3. The celebration of  businesses trading not only in the UK but worldwide (need to add some impressive stockist here)

4. The intention to inspire a future generation of creative talent

The exhibition will be held at Gallery 40,  40 Gloucester Rd  North Laine, Brighton, East Sussex BN1 4AQ

The Facebook page, along with more information, is here. It's running from October 30th to November 10th, and is open Mon - Sat between 11:30am and 6pm, and Sundays 12pm to 4pm.

Alun Callender has been taking photos of the makers, including a particularly brooding one of me, and they're on display as well.

There are quite a few very talented people showing stuff there, and we're exhibiting three new pieces as well as our Breadboard coffee table. They're all for sale, so prise your wallets open and get down there.

Upcoming Pieces October 29 2013

As mentioned in our previous update, we've got some new work coming soon to the site. Here are a few sneak previews from the workshop:

Brand New Shoes October 29 2013

We've been working a while on this, but finally the new site is ready along with a complete new identity. We've previously been operating under the moniker of 'Tom Robinson Furniture', but this new outfit is more for our own range of products.

We have a few new exciting products which will be for sale here along with three existing pieces. The new bits and pieces are showing from 30th October at the Making It showcase, at Gallery 40 in Brighton, and once they've had their proper time in front of a camera they'll go straight onto the site.

In the meantime, this is what's currently for sale:
